About The Series

The next President will face a wide range of challenges - economic, political, and social. He or she will need to be able to lead an effective government than can address these challenges. The IBM Center for The Business of Government is committed to helping identify and bring best practices from research to practice.

During 2008-2009, the IBM Center is devoting special attention to the needs of the incoming Administration:

  • We are sponsoring a series of reports that touch on management issues facing the next Administration.
  • We launched a blog in March 2007 on management challenges facing the next president and will continue it in the coming year.
  • We have written a series of issue briefs addressing a range of management-related issues that will face the next Administration.
  • We plan to create resources that will help agency executives better manage their agencies.
  • We plan to provide insights that will be helpful to new political appointees as they undertake their new duties.
  • We are also sponsoring special forums on management challenges that are likely to face the next Administration.

In addition, the IBM Center, like in past years, is a member of a broader coalition of groups dedicated to improving government management.
