William Campbell


William H. Campbell serves as Assistant Secretary for Management and Chief Financial Officer of the Department of Veterans Affairs.

In that position, Mr. Campbell is responsible for planning, managing, coordinating and overseeing all financial, budgetary, acquisition and logistics policies, systems and operations for the federal government’s second largest agency with an annual budget of more than $59 billion and more than 223,000 employees.

Mr. Campbell previously served as VA’s Deputy Assistant Secretary for Finance and Deputy Chief Financial Officer since October 2000.

Prior to joining VA, Mr. Campbell was Chief Financial Officer for the Coast Guard. Under his leadership, the Coast Guard became the first armed service to receive an unqualified, or “clean,” financial audit opinion from the Government Accounting Office in 1999.

Mr. Campbell holds a master’s degree in technical management from Johns Hopkins University, a diploma in resource management from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces, and a bachelor’s degree in marine and electrical engineering from the Massachusetts Maritime Academy.

A member of the Senior Executive Service since 1985, Mr. Campbell is a recipient of the Presidential Senior Executive Service Distinguished Rank Award.
