We talked this week about David Walker’s recommendations in Comeback America to address and reduce the debt.  In addition to his suggestions about revising the budget process to promote zero based budgeting and required controls on spending, Walker advocates a very thoughtful strategic planning approach across the Federal government.

Sunday, May 9th, 2010 - 17:13
Thursday, May 6, 2010 - 17:09
Was it a parade of stars or a suicide mission?  Last week I attended a one-day wonk fest on the country’s long term fiscal outlook, the “2010 Fiscal Summit.”  It offered a rainy forecast, with possible thundershowers and occasional tornados.  It was organized by the Peter G.

Key National Indicators Are Now Real

Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010 - 17:09
Almost three years ago, I blogged on the need for a Key National Indicator System so we, as a nation, could track our progress using data, not diatribe.  It’s happened.  A provision buried on page 1,489 of the health insurance reform bill makes it real!

Governing with Foresight

Thursday, November 20th, 2008 - 9:27
Last night I attended a showing of the documentary “IOUSA” featuring former Comptroller General David Walker. The film was done before the financial bailout crisis, plunge in the markets, and recession. And it was scary. It describes how the country has created $55 Trillion in unfunded
