House Hearing on Transition

Yesterday a subcommittee of the House Government Oversight and Reform Committee held a hearing on the preparations for the upcoming presidential transition.  Like the Senate hearing a couple weeks ago, many of the same Administration witnesses were there and delivered virtually the same statements.  There was a separate panel with witnesses from academe and think tanks. Again, their testimonies covered similar materials that had been covered in other congressional hearings in recent weeks.

Senate Hearing on Transition

A Senate subcommittee held a hearing last week on what the executive branch is doing to prepare for the upcoming transition.  A House subcommittee plans a similar hearing next week, on the 24th.

Government Reform: Democratic Platform

The Democratic and Republican party platforms both have things to say about how their party would approach running the government.  Since they are both a bit long, I’ll break them into separate postings.

Minus the boiler plate this seems close to the mark. I would suggest a stong statement supporting field units establishing collaborative organizatios with local entities. The idea of a Chief Technology Officer sounds scary and counter to to some of the stated goals. Hope this goes through I'm doing it from a OLPC developed at MIT.

In the midst of the political conventions the past couple of weeks, a fun article appeared in Sunday’s Chicago Tribune, by Steven L. Katz.   Katz is a former fed and management author. In it, he looked at how head hunting firms go about helping major corporations hire their chief executives.

I made a comment on the January 23 blog that "Our leaders are trusted servants they do not govern". The first words of the preamble to our nation's Constitution says "We the people".We are a democracy and that word is derived from two Greek words meaning "the people rule". We are at a point where the infrastructure of the Federal government has been compromised and damage control and rebuilding are necessary. This is a good point to develop a more collaborative infrastructure using electronic networks. Finally keep it simple.
I believe that concept that "the president is a CEO" runs counter to the Constitution and history.

I would like to add to the broken systems the whole area of the peoples greatest treasure Federal lands. The organizations involved in their management have been starved for money and personnel while the current economic conditions have increased the work load.
